It was not a bad drive at all (2 1/2 hrs out of the Keys, & another 4 hrs with rest/food stops from Miami to FT. After calling about 6 agencies we were able to get a car one way to FT Myers.
Key west express price plus#
We could not stay in our hotel as it was booked for the next day/night, and most of the hotels that had rooms were high priced because it was in-season rates so we had no choice to rent a car which entailed another cost plus we had to cut our trip to the Keys short.
The weather turned out to be great on Saturday at Key West but since they did not leave FT Myers we could not return and when we called they were not sure if they were sailing on Sunday nor could we reserve a date or seats (YES we DID have round trip tickets) - it was on a letter basis given to you when you checked in at Key West they told us on the phone when we called. NOW for the return trip - We were suppose to leave Sat Dec 19th however due to very heavy rains on Friday at Key West they decided to canceled the boat for Saturday at FT Myers (never did they call us until we called them). All prices for any beverage or food was triple in cost. The boat was extremely rocky & you could not lock the coed restroom door therefore you needed to have someone stand outside the door when you went to the restroom. We arrived at Key West after 12:30p (not a 3 1/2 hr ride as advertised). FIRST, You had to be there by 7am to check in to make sure you had a seat, SECOND, You did not board until 7:30am, & THIRD You did not leave until after 8:30am - to me this was almost a waste of 2 hrs. We purchased tickets well in advance for ROUND TRIP Thur. I will NEVER-EVER recommend the Key West Express.
